To understand the history of Resurrection Fest and its evolution you must go back to 2006. It all started when two 18-years old boys from ONP CREW, who were fans of skateboarding and specially of punk and hardcore music, intended to organize a SICK OF IT ALL gig as part of the Viveiro’s festivities.

 

Although the idea had little chance to succeed, the Mayor of Viveiro accepted it. This first festival called SUMMER FEST VIVEIRO raised great expectations in Galicia because it would be the first SICK OF IT ALL’s live performance in our territory and the entry was completely free. Two days before the festival the organizers had one of their toughest times: SICK OF IT ALL were forced to cancel their live performance due to the sudden illness of one of their members. The young organizers were criticized from many people who thought everything was a fake and that the band would never perform in Viveiro.

 

However, all this criticism and disbelief was the trigger for these young people to take courage to organize the festival again a few months later, but this time with a new name: RESURRECTION FEST. The little festival in which nobody had believed was still alive, and this time it came back to life stronger than ever because the passion of its founders was still intact.

 

The first Resurrection Fest took place in November 2006 in a covered venue. Besides SOIA, WALLS OF JERICHO performed also and the success was complete. The organizers knew that something great and special was born. The expectations were higher than ever and the goal for the coming year was to hold an outdoor festival and to extend its life two days. The line-up of the second Resurrection Fest featured bands such as MADBALL, IGNITE, NAPALM DEATH, CALIBAN, ANGEL CREW or BACKFIRE and it succeed again with more than 5,000 attendees coming from all over the peninsula. So year after year the festival has grown to establish itself as the largest fest of hardcore/punk and metal music in the peninsula.

 

In addition, it has always managed to have one of the best values for money among all the European festivals.

 

Since 2010 the festival lasts three days, and in the 2011’s edition it has been able to break its own attendance record with more than 23,000 people during the weekend. Bands like DOWN, PENNYWISE, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, LAGWAGON, SICK OF IT ALL, THE ADICTS, NO USE FOR A NAME, THE MISFITS, BRING ME THE HORIZON, NAPALM DEATH, GALLOWS, CONVERGE, GORILLA BISCUITS... (And so on up to a total of 150 bands) have participated in Resurrection Fest.

 

Resurrection Fest has always been and will be a festival created by and for music fans. The history of this young festival has only just begun. We hope to keep on writing it with all hardcore/punk and metal fans for many years in this great adventure called RESURRECTION FEST.

 

On 2nd, 3rd and 4th August 2012 something very special will happen in Viveiro!!
